Car magazine reports that the first Minis with stop-start engine systems are arriving in UK dealers. There’s no obvious mention on Mini’s UK website, which is a shame given the technology’s potential importance.

Wheels on fire

There’s an interesting post on the American website HybridCars.com about the Lithium Ion (Li-ion) batteries planned for the next generation Toyota Prius. It seems that Toyota won’t now be introducing the batteries until a couple of years into the Prius’ lifespan, around 2011.

High speed hybrids

No-one could accuse Porsche’s cars of being sluggish, but they don’t fare so well when considered for their environmental impact. The company’s most efficient model, the Cayman, manages to produce 222g of carbon dioxide for every kilometre. Don’t even ask about the four-wheel drive Cayenne.
