Summer holidays. Long car journeys. Potential for things to get messy.
So here, just for you, are the best car games in the world. Download them, print them off and let your journey fly by.
There are car games, and then there’s Pub Cricket – the car game of kings. It’s a game to entertain you on any journey, you won’t need any equipment, and it can keep you busy for hours. Download pub cricket (pdf)
One-word-at-a-time storytelling
A great game for long, monotonous motorway journeys. The purpose of this game is to get your little ones distracted from the “are we nearly there yet?” phase of the journey. It can also help with the “if you fight with your sister/brother any more I’m going to throw you out of the car” phase rather well too. Download one-word-at-a-time stories (pdf)
Car registration plate games
On a long car journey, one thing you’re likely to see a lot of is the backs of other cars. But registration plates can be an endless source of inspiration. There are many games you can play by plate-spotting – we’ve put together a few ideas for starters. Download car registration plate games (pdf)
Alphabets on the road
Keeping the kids quiet on a long journey is one thing, but how about keeping them occupied *and* helping them learn the alphabet at the same time? These three easy games are a great way to practice - and you can vary the difficulty levels for children of all ages. Download alphabets on the road (pdf)
Animal bingo
Keep your eyes peeled and a surprising amount can be seen from the car. Spotting different birds and farm animals is fun anyway - but it’s even better with bingo cards. Download animal bingo (pdf)
Trouble viewing the games?
You’ll need Acrobat Reader to see our games. If you don’t have it installed, you can download it for free from Adobe’s website.

How about Car Trivial Pursuit for slightly older families or bored adults with small attention spans?
Cheese colours:
White - History
Blue - Geography
Red - sport and leisure
Silver - Art and Literature
Green - Science and Nature
Pink/purple or any other unusual colour - Entertainment
Object of the game is to get all the cheeses by answering questions correctly set by the opposing team based on the colour car that passes.
Obviously, on motorways there is more traffic so you say that a dice roll is every 6th car. Whatever colour the car is, then the question is chosen/set from that category. If you get it right, you get a cheese!
Collect all cheeses to win.
Ensure that there is some strategic cheating to make the game even more interesting, i.e ask a Rennaissance art question and you swear that a certain picture was painted by Fra Fillipo Lippi. Say that you know your stuff as you have an Art History A level/went to night classes etc
