When wind turbines go bad 

We hadn’t realised that wind turbines need brakes. But apparently they do.

And this, it seems, is what happens when the brakes fail in high winds.

The scale of the turbine is only highlighted when you see the white van parked up next to the base.

This second video, though shot from further away, leaves you in no doubt as to how lucky the filmmakers were to have been standing well away from the structure.

The footage was apparently taken by engineers who had been unable to do anything about the out-of-control turbine, and had therefore retired to a safe distance.

A Danish-speaking friend tells us you can hear one of the engineers saying that they were “over there” only three minutes before the turbine disintegrated.
