Hydrogen fuel from E. coli: the next bug thing?

Saw this over at Treehugger, which resisted the urge to pun on ‘big thing’ in the title. No such restraint here.
It seems that researchers at Texas A&M University have “tweaked” the ubiquitous E. coli bacterium by removing six key genes, to create what are effectively mini hydrogen factories.
