Bad week for low-energy light bulbs

Energy-saving light bulbs have had a bit of a rocky start to 2008. On Wednesday, the Migraine Action Association said that some of its members had experienced migraines as a result of “either the flickering or the low intensity of the light”, while dermatologists today said that fluorescent light can cause skin complaints.
The Lighting Association, a trade body representing the lighting industry, says that new energy-saving bulbs are flicker-free.
There’s little formal research into the affect of fluorescent light on photosensitive skin conditions, but Andrew Langford, chief executive officer of the Skin Care Campaign said that: “We have the anecdotal information - it’s a shame people don’t listen to those affected.”
The concerns seem especially pertinent, as energy firm npower today announced a 12.7% hike in its electricity prices, a move that other suppliers are widely expected to follow.
