Lady driver to the rescue!

So, you’ve been for a walk in the countryside, only to return to your car to realise that you’ve locked your keys in the boot. It happens to the best of us. The question is - who are you going to call: your wife, who is at home 300 miles away, or the AA?

Most of us would probably opt for the AA, thinking it would be the quickest option. And, apparently that’s just what Kevin Winstanley did when he found himself stranded on the Yorkshire Dales one Saturday evening last month, with his keys locked in the boot of his Audi A8. But it was his wife Jacqueline who came to his rescue after making the 300-mile journey from Southampton.

Luckily, Mr Winstanley hadn’t completely locked himself out and he was at least able to wait inside the car. An AA man attended after three hours, but didn’t manage to get the keys out of the boot. It was apparently ten hours before Mrs Winstanley arrived with a spare set and presumably, at 5am, a heavily-lidded pair of eyes.

Mr Winstanley told the BBC: “I just couldn’t believe it when I saw her and realised she had made it all the way from Southampton.”
“When Jacqui arrived it was the last thing in the world I expected to see. It was freezing cold and my contact lenses had welded to my eyes because I’d been sleeping in them.”

The AA has said it is looking into the incident. In the meantime, we’re off to get some more spare keys cut.
