I hate going to the barber. But is doing it yourself a good idea? Clippers in hand, I decided to find out.

Quote of the Day
The Government seems to love couching these new pieces of red tape as weapons in a crusade against slum landlords

There were two waxwings in a tree by my house just before xmas... I think it must have gone up on SOS 'cos there were loads of birdwatchers in my street - pretty unusual for that part of town!

Ingenious yes, but where are their presents? (and for that matter their bellies?)

A friend of mine swears by his annual car hire insurance policy, saves him a fortune. I undertook an epic 2,000 mile roadtrip this Christmas, to Denmark and back. After endless googling it seems almost impossible to rent a car in the UK and drive it across Europe. I paid about £60 for a green card and extended comprehensive second-driver cover on my Dad's policy, rented him a supermini for the week for £130, borrowed his car and just paid for the diesel. If it hadn't been for the collapse of the British Pound I'd have only been paying c. 80p per litre for diesel too, which is still cheaper than petrol EVERYWHERE ELSE IN EUROPE!

That is CHEAP! I've resorted to "borrowing Daddy's car" when I need my own transport. It makes economic sense, with his half century record of clean driving, renting him a Ka-or-equivalent is dirt cheap. Adding me to his insurance plan is equally cheap (I guess the odds work in favour of even young male drivers when the vehichle is a diesel estate) and given that I'm under 25 this negates having to pay ludicrous daily car rental supplements. I'll look in to this leasing, thanks, but a mileage limit might ultimately dissuade me from parting with my cash. Makes me think, an insurance company ask for an estimated mileage, is there any danger in seriously underestimating this? Are there any penalties? How/do they check?
